360-Degree Feedback

Also known as multi-source or multi-rater feedback, 360-degree feedback is a method ofimproving employee effectiveness that uses input from multiple sources.  It involves collecting perceptions about a person’s behavior, and the impact of that behavior, from a person’s boss, direct reports and peers and, where appropriate,  customers .  A 360-degree feedback process gathers feedback on a person’s behavior from a range of vantage points and provides him or her with a complete picture of their behavior on the job.

How would I use 360-degree Feedback?

In today’s flatter organizations, effective communication and teamwork across organizational boundaries is critical for business success. Managers are required to work more closely with people in other parts of the organization.  In addition, they usually do not have direct authority over these individuals, yet are expected to work with them to achieve business results.  In this type of environment, traditional forms of feedback (primarily downward) are inadequate in terms of providing individuals with meaningful information about their performance.
