Principles of Strategy

There are more opportunities than there are resources to capitalize on all the opportunities.

Since there are unlimited number of opportunities, and limited resources, there are limits on capability--you cannot be world class at everything.

Focused resources are more successful at creating value and capitalizing on opportunities than unfocused resources.

If you don’t know what to say no to and what tradeoffs you have chosen, you don’t have a strategy.

Organizational strategy should be reflected in the activities and design of the organization.

An organization’s design that enables or reflects its intended position has both benefits and risks.
